Un giorno Clay si reca all’accampamento del nuovo circo arrivato in città e, sorpreso da Ollie, la piccola nipote della zingara, viene portato al cospetto della gabbia del lupo, l’ultimo esemplare rimasto nel Regno Unito. Nebbia, così lo chiama, è feroce, arrabbiato, assolutamente indomabile, forse anche in virtù dei metodi crudeli dei domatori, a cui Clay assiste di nascosto. Da quel momento, in Clay scatta qualcosa: vuole, con tutte le sue forze, che l’animale ritorni libero e, con la stessa tenacia, cerca di creare un legame con lui, aiutato da Ollie.
